I decided to release Compact 7.2 after all because some people kept asking me about it.

About Netscape 7 Compact
Netscape 7 Compact is a customized version of the official Netscape 7. I used the Client Customization Kit to build the program (the CCK is freely available at Netscape), then added more tweaks and addons. See below for a detailed chart and here for a step-by-step 'howto' on how to create Compact yourself.
I originally didn't intend to distribute it over the internet. But some people got interested and so I decided to do it anyways. Compact is the way I want my Netscape to be, it strongly reflects my preferences and habits - so you may like it... or maybe not, but that's ok. :-)
Netscape 7 Compact is in perpetual development cycle, I'm tweaking the program whenever I can think of something I like, so make sure you check back often, if you are interested in always having the newest version (not always the best - you have been warned). Compact may be freely distributed, but please do not modify any files within the archive and inform me if you upload Compact to a website. Ah yes... the usual caveats apply... use it under your own risk, etc. - and the official Netscape license is also valid for Compact.

So what special features does Compact have?
I want my Netscape AOL-free - that was the initial thought and starting point - that's why I called it Compact: it's free of all the AOL-additions that I don't want and don't need. Then I thought about all the hassle i go through when installing addons - why not just include them in the Netscape package? And so I did. Compact contains the addons I think are best for a complete Netscape Suite. The following addons are included: Calendar, Mouse Gestures, ROT-13 En-/Decoder, Message-ID-Finder and Beatnik Audio player. Important: Those addons are copyrighted by their authors/owners. In addition, Compact restores all Mozilla functionalities (plaintext tags, Imageblocker, full access to script and windows). It also contains many more enhancements such as different colors for the different quoting levels in Mailnews. A detailed chart can be found at the end of this page. See some screenshots of Compact.

System requirements
Pentium 2 400mhz or higher, 128MB RAM or higher. MS-Windows operating system.

The Download of Netscape 7.1 Compact has been deactivated because of severe security vulnerabilities that affect all Netscape 7.x browsers. Please download Mozilla 1.7.5, Firefox 1.0 or higher.

Known Issues/Problems with Netscape 7 Compact
Compact is based on Netscape 7. That means all 7 problems and issues can also be found in Compact. Please note: Compact is not a different program, it's just a customized distribution. So don't expect any miracles. :-)
If you encounter Compact-related isssues such as installation problems contact me. Problems with Netscape 7 can be discussed in the Netscape 7 newsgroup, where Netscape 7 Compact is also on-topic (since Compact is - as mentioned before - just a special Netscape 7 version). If you contact Netscape with support questions make sure you verified the problem with an official version of Netscape 7! It could very well be that the problem is Compact-related after all (doubtful, but possible).

Home Button
The Home button only works in Modern and Classic. If you plan to use third-party themes do not install the home button.
